Itinerary

Take your flight to reach Bali.

Arrive into Bali’s international airport in Denpasar, where you will be met and driven up the east coast of the island to stay at the Alila Manggis for 2 nights.

Accompanied by a local guide, discover the area around Candidasa on the east coast. Visit Goa Lawah temple and its bat cave as well as the village of Tenganan, which is famous for its architecture and the production of double weave ikat fabrics and basketwork. Continue to the slopes of Mount Agung and visit the most important Hindu temple in Bali, the Pura Besakih. (B)

From Alila Manggis drive inland to Ubud, a charming town with a long history dating back to the eighth century. Once a haven for backpackers, artists and bohemians, today the town features luxury hotels and mansions and attracts art collectors and literati from around the world. Stay at the Puri Sunia for 3 nights. (B, L)

Escorted by local guide, take a walk along mountain trails and learn about the many species of plants that local people use in traditional medicine. (B, L)

Journey north to the village of Bayung Gede, where you will learn about local spiritual rituals and beliefs. Continue to an area of north-east Bali known as Kintamani, where you will have lunch against a magnificent view of Mount Batur. Continue to Lovina on the north coast and stay at The Lovina for 1 night, a beachside property set among fragrant frangipani trees and tropical gardens. (B, L)

Morning at leisure. In the afternoon drive west towards Pejarakan. Stay 3 nights at The Menjangan, a peaceful retreat set within the boundaries of the Bali Barat National Park in the far north-west of Bali. (B, L)

Spend two days exploring the national park from your hotel. Inland, tour the rainforest on foot, horseback or mountain bike, or discover the coastal waters in kayaks or on snorkelling tours. Birdwatching tours and Balinese cooking classes are also available. (B)

Drive to Denpasar, then connect with a flight to your next destination. (B)
