This self-drive tour is the perfect introduction to Denmark. Starting in the former capital of Roskilde, travel to the present capital, Copenhagen, with free time to explore the surrounding region with its excellent palaces and world-famous art museums at your own pace.

Itinerary

Fly to Copenhagen. Collect your hire car (based on group C car rental). Drive to Roskilde and stay 3 nights at the Comwell Hotel Roskilde (or similar).

Full day at leisure. Perhaps make a morning visit to the Viking ship museum, which contains a magnificent collection of Viking long ships, followed by an afternoon visit to the cathedral, the traditional burial place of Danish monarchs. (B)

Full day at leisure. We suggest a drive to the island of Funen and a visit to Egeskov castle, which is considered to be one of Denmark's finest palaces. Alternatively, visit the town of Odense, the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, and see the museum dedicated to his life. (B)

This morning drive to Copenhagen with possible stops at Fredensborg Palace, the spring and autumn residence of the royal family; Kronborg castle, which was the setting of Shakespeare’s Hamlet; or the modern art museum of Louisiana, home of the author Karen Blixen. Stay 2 nights at the Comfort Hotel Vesterbro (or similar). (B)

Full day at leisure to explore the capital of Denmark. Explore the renowned Tivoli Gardens, view the Little Mermaid statue or visit the old waterfront area of Nyhavn. (B)

Drop off your car hire at the airport and fly to your next destination. (B)
